EASTER SUNDAY 1

EASTER SUNDAY

Easter Sunday, also known as Resurrection Sunday, is a Christian holiday, where the resurrection of Jesus is commemorated, thus closing the Easter Triduum of the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Christ. It is the culmination of the celebration of Holy Week or Major Week and begins the Easter period.

Beginnings of the Easter Celebration

Passover, which means Passage, is an ancient Jewish celebration that commemorates the passage of the people of Israel through the Red Sea, at a time when this people was a slave in Egypt. After the coming of the Messiah, Christians adopted this holiday signifying the Passage of Jesus from death to life, after dying on the cross for the salvation of humanity and rising on the third day.

Easter Day Celebration

Being a Jewish celebration, it is considered an ancient tradition. For this people, the commemoration takes place during Nisan, which is the first month in the Hebrew calendar. It is also often called the supper of the lamb and it commemorates the escape from slavery in Egypt, guided by Moses. Jesus, being a Jew, celebrated Passover with his disciples with Jewish customs, which required being together, eating unleavened bread and wine. One of those celebrations is known as The Last Supper.

But for Christians, Easter represents the resurrection of Jesus after three days. Within the liturgical act, there is the celebration of the Easter Vigil which begins on Holy Saturday where the resurrection is anxiously awaited. The Paschal Candle is lit, which is a symbol of the light of Christ to give way to the liturgy of the word, where the gospels that narrate the moment of resurrection are read. The act ends with the Eucharist and the Blessed Sacrament is opened again, sealed from the beginning of the Easter Triduum, that is, from Holy Thursday .
The next day, on Sunday, the celebration is jubilant among the faithful. The Procession is made with the image of the Risen Christ that is accompanied by musical bands, fireworks and a great color that expresses the joy for the triumph of life over death.
